Red Bulls Sukhoi SU-26
The SU-26 is one of the world's most popular full size competition aerobatic aircraft. Built in Russia and equipped with the 400HP Vedeneyev M14P radial engine,it has flight performance that has won the world aerobatic and many more championships. Wild Hare is now proud to have reproduced this airplane at approximately 35% scale. This new Sukhoi SU-26 has set a new standard for 100cc class airplanes in the areas of fight performance, appearance, and features.Covered and finished in the “Matador” scheme it makes a statement as soon as you arrive at the field. This is also Wild Hare’s first 100cc class plane to use ”pocket” hinges. The pocket hinges allow very smooth airflow over the surfaces with no gaps, hence all surfaces come pre-hinged.
Wing Span: 102"
Length: 88"
Weight: 25-27 lbs.
Wing area: 1825 sq. in.
Suggested Engine: 80-115cc gas
The Sukhoi is ideal as a 3D “100cc” class airplane, but not everyone is a 3D pilot so for IMAC classes and for sport flying the Sukhoi is also ideal capable of all styes off flying.Engines such as the 3W 85xi,ZDZ-80, DLE 111, or any good 80-100cc engine are ideal. The airframes are all made from selected balsa and lite ply construction and covered in Ultracote. Wings are balsa sheeted foam. The wings and stabs are mounted on a "carbon fibre" tube making the plane easy to transport. The rudder can be also be easily removed if necessary.
Landing gear is 2 piece polished aluminium, and the lower front section of the fuselage is set up to accommodate one or two canister mufflers. The canister tunnel also serves as a mounting platform for fuel and or smoke tanks.Canister mufflers are suggested for their clean appearance and excellent performance.
Flight performance can be both spectacular or mild. On low rates the Sukhoi flies like well behaved aerobatic trainer, due partly to it has a very light wing loading, its very stable at low speed and no bad habits so any sport flier will be comfortable. It is very easy to land, particularly on smaller fields. The big round cowl causes quite a bit of useful drag, so the plane slows down quickly. Just carry a little throttle until the runway is under the plane and then chop the throttle.
Precision aerobatics performance is excellent. The Sukhoi design puts the thrust line in the centre of the fuselage with the wing just slightly below the thrust line and the stab just slightly above the thrust line. This makes for little coupling, axial rolls and full control throughout the entire flight envelope. Again the large cowl helps by slowing down-line acceleration giving the pilot more time to perform these manoeuvres allowing time to think.
3D aerobatics is truly where this plane shines. There is nothing it won’t do "and do well". Rolling harriers, tip spins, spectacular knife edge loops, knife edge snaps, blenders, in fact all manoeuvres are executed without complaint from the Sukhoi.
No matter what your flying style, this airplane will do it all, accommodating a wide range of flying styles and a large selection of engines.
